Searching the Chatham County Court Docket
Odyssey, also known as re:SearchGA, is the main public entry point for the Chatham County court docket. It pulls case information from participating Superior, State, Magistrate, Probate, and Recorder's Court locations. Smart Search works with a case number or a party name. Need to narrow things down? Advanced filters let you sort by court, case type, citation number, business name, attorney, judicial officer, or cross-reference.
The case number is your best starting point when you have it. Name searches follow Last, First order. Wildcards and the Sounds Like option rescue misspelled names, though the official guide warns against combining the two. For an in-person option, public terminals at the Gadsden Courthouse serve walk-in users, and each clerk can handle phone, mail, or counter requests.
- Identify the court from the citation, summons, filing, or case type.
- Search Odyssey by case number, or enter a party name and choose the court location.
- Open the matching caption and review the header, roles, status, and Events/Hearings.
- Compare a setting with the county Court Proceedings page or the court’s separate calendar.
- Request the filed image or certified copy from the clerk that keeps the file.
The Chatham courts landing page supplies the official Court Proceedings and court-routing controls.

The county's official page draws a useful line between two tasks. Searching by date and pulling a full case history are related, but they call for different steps.
Chatham Odyssey Docket Search Fields
Chatham County launched Odyssey in July 2017. Anyone can search public, nonconfidential case information without an account. Document images are another matter. Registered access may require clerk approval and a fee. Even then, sealed material stays closed. Portal updates sometimes rename the search labels. The official guide still documents the core tools.
| Control | Use | Local guidance |
|---|---|---|
| Smart Search | Case number or party name | At least four case-number characters; names use Last, First |
| Court Location | Limit the docket source | Choose one participating court or all locations |
| Search Type | Change the lookup key | Includes citation, business, attorney, case, party, and judicial officer |
| Sounds Like | Find similar name spellings | Do not combine it with a wildcard |
| Search Hearings | Find settings | Filter by location, hearing type, and search type |
| View Document | Request or open an image | Registered access and payment may apply |
eFileGA plays a different part in the system. It delivers State and Superior civil filings to the court rather than serving as the public Chatham County court docket.
Inside a Chatham County Court Docket
Think of a docket as the court's chronological index for one case. It can show the case, court, judge, roles, filings, settings, and public result. Financial details depend on the court and the case type. One caution applies here. A linked document indicator does not mean an anonymous user can actually open the image.
| Case header | Case number, filing date, court location, judicial officer, case type, caption, status, and public disposition. |
|---|---|
| Parties | Plaintiff, petitioner, defendant, respondent, the State, or another role, plus counsel when entered. |
| Events | Dated filings, orders, service, motions, hearings, resets, and other case activity. |
| Settings | Hearing date, time, location, courtroom, judge, and setting type when available. |
| Financial data | Costs, fines, bond, restitution, fees, judgment, or balance when that court exposes them. |
| Access status | Redaction, security, restricted access, document gate, or no public image. |
Chatham County courts do not share one universal case-number pattern. Copy the identifier exactly as it appears. A local session prefix like CR, CO, or MI is only a calendar label, and substituting it for the case number can sink your docket search.
Three Chatham Docket Record Layers
A docket, a calendar, and a certified copy answer three different questions about Chatham County court records. The docket lists events for a single case. The calendar groups hearings by date or session. A certified copy reproduces a filed document with the clerk's authentication attached. Mix these layers up, and a solid search result can lead to a conclusion the records never support.
- Docket sheet
- The register-style list of case events, filings, and settings.
- Court Proceedings
- Chatham County’s date-facing list for Criminal, Civil, and Recorders sessions.
- Events/Hearings
- The Odyssey area that places settings within the case history.
- Certified copy
- A clerk-authenticated copy, different from a screen view or plain copy.
- Document Access
- Registered Odyssey access to filed images, subject to approval, fees, and restrictions.
When you need a signed order, go past the docket entry and use the clerk's copy channel. A brief calendar note such as "plea," "passed," or "sentencing" is not the full judgment.
Courts That Keep Dockets in Chatham County
Georgia runs six trial-court classes. Chatham County adds Recorder's Court plus distinct city courts to the practical search map. Superior Court covers felonies, divorce, land disputes, and broad civil matters. State Court takes misdemeanors, bound-over traffic cases, and civil claims outside Superior's exclusive reach. Magistrate handles smaller civil claims, dispossessory actions, garnishments, warrants, and related matters.
| Court | Docket covers | Where to start |
|---|---|---|
| Superior Court | Felony, divorce, land, broad civil, protective orders | Odyssey and Superior Clerk |
| State Court | Misdemeanor, traffic, and concurrent civil work | Odyssey, Court Proceedings, State Clerk |
| Magistrate Court | Claims to $15,000, dispossessory, garnishment, warrants | Odyssey or Magistrate Clerk |
| Probate Court | Estates, wills, guardianships, licenses | Probate office and participating search |
| Juvenile Court | Dependency, delinquency, CHINS, juvenile traffic | Juvenile office under stricter access rules |
| Recorder’s and municipal | Local traffic, ordinance, and limited criminal matters | The issuing court and its own portal |
The Chatham State Court page explains its jurisdiction and Case Lookup route.

The State Court source explains why a misdemeanor or civil case might sit outside the Superior Clerk's file.
Chatham Lower-Court Docket Routes
Two local courts warrant their own check. Magistrate Court hears civil claims up to $15,000. It also handles dispossessory and garnishment cases, warrants, FiFas, and related enforcement. Probate Court holds wills, estates, guardianships, conservatorships, licenses, and other probate matters. Never assume their files from a Superior or State result. The official Magistrate Court page describes its Chatham County filing and jurisdiction routes.

The Magistrate source routes small civil and related cases to the right clerk rather than the broader State civil channel. The Chatham Probate Court page identifies the office and its subject areas.

The Probate source marks a distinct record layer for estates, guardianships, and licenses.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
Chatham County's Court Proceedings interface takes a date and offers Criminal, Civil, and Recorders categories. Results can group cases by session. Each line then shows time, location, type, judge, case number, party label, attorney, and a live-feed link where one exists. Odyssey Search Hearings gives a second view by location and hearing type.
When a setting truly matters, check both. Compare the case number, court, judge, location, session, and time across them. Read the newest reset or continuance event before drawing any conclusion. If the two disagree, call the office that keeps the calendar. Municipal, Probate, Juvenile, and Magistrate cases may run on their own schedules entirely. The full local workflow sits in Chatham County court dates.
A "passed" note means the matter moved. It does not mean the case ended. A docket call organizes cases. A status conference reports posture or readiness.
Chatham’s Bound-Over Docket Delay
A misdemeanor can start in Recorder's Court or a municipal court. It can then move up to State Court. Chatham County warns that the paperwork may take one to six weeks to arrive, get entered, and receive a State case number. During that gap, a "no result" in State Odyssey proves nothing about whether the matter still exists.
Hang onto the city or Recorder's citation number. Ask the issuing court whether it transferred the file, then wait out the stated entry interval and search State Court again. Until the State case exists, the city portal remains your source for the local stage, and Odyssey only becomes useful afterward.
Search tip: Identify the issuing court first. A local citation, a bound-over State case, and a Superior appeal can have separate docket entries.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Public Chatham County court docket entries typically cover nonconfidential metadata, roles, events, settings, and status. The index is not the whole file, though. Anonymous Odyssey users get no sealed or confidential information and no ordinary document images. Registration may widen image access after clerk approval and payment. It never overrides a seal.
Georgia access rules:
O.C.G.A. §50-18-70 supports access to public records unless a lawful exemption applies.
O.C.G.A. §§50-18-71 and 50-18-72 address requests, custodians, charges, exemptions, and protected information.
Uniform Superior Court Rule 21 provides the court-record access rule and the process for limiting, sealing, reviewing, or redacting access.
O.C.G.A. §9-11-7.1 and §10-1-393.8 support redaction limits for identifiers in public civil filings.
A written request should name the case, the document, the date range, the delivery method, and your contact information. No request can defeat a seal, juvenile confidentiality, or statutory privacy protection.
Restricted Chatham County Docket Results
Some Chatham County court docket results never surface. A sealed docket may be hidden or trimmed to bare metadata. Juvenile records carry an added confidentiality layer. Protective-order or family-violence files can sit on a sealed or redacted page apart from the public record. Filings open to the public still mask some details. Social Security numbers, tax identifiers, account numbers, and birth-date details all stay hidden.
Missing from the docket search? Check the court and the spelling first. Try the case number, citation, business name, or a cross-reference, and remember the bound-over delay. Then ask the clerk which public channel fits, without putting confidential facts into an open form.
The Chatham Juvenile Court page identifies the separate juvenile office and programs.

Juvenile cases follow their own rules. That source confirms an adult-style public name search is the wrong assumption for a child's case.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
No single office holds every Chatham County docket. Tammie Mosley is the Clerk of Superior Court. She keeps Superior civil, domestic, felony, land, property, UCC, and protective-order records. State Court Clerk and Court Administrator David A. Wood maintains State civil, misdemeanor, traffic, calendar, fine, and restitution records. Magistrate, Probate, Juvenile, Recorder's, and municipal courts each run through their own offices.

State Court administration
You can request Superior criminal records in person, by mail, fax, or electronic certification. Remote access can fail. Public terminals at both the Superior and State offices fill the gap. Probate, Magistrate, Juvenile, and Recorder's requests are different. Those must go to their own custodians instead.

The directory is a practical cross-check before calling or visiting the wrong counter.
From Chatham Paper Dockets to Odyssey
The Superior Clerk's office dates to 1798. Its holdings run from early paper land, civil, and criminal files to today's electronic systems. That span matters for genealogy and older-case digging. A modern Odyssey search may surface current metadata. Yet an old document can still need a clerk request or an archive visit.
Odyssey went live for Chatham County courts in July 2017. The platform joined public case information across several participating local courts. It never merged every custodian or city system. The federal layer shifted on its own. The Southern District of Georgia moved to NextGen CM/ECF in 2020.
So "online" means several things here. eFileGA submits civil filings. Odyssey searches state and county cases, and Court Proceedings finds dates. Clerk systems hand out authenticated copies.
Federal and Chatham Dockets Compared
Local parties and events do not put a case in Odyssey. Federal matters from Chatham County run through the Southern District of Georgia. That happens on PACER and NextGen CM/ECF. Bankruptcy belongs to the Southern District Bankruptcy Court. Federal appeals climb to the Eleventh Circuit. Georgia state appeals go to the Court of Appeals of Georgia or the Supreme Court of Georgia.
| Question | Chatham state or local | Federal |
|---|---|---|
| Public search | Odyssey plus local court portals | PACER Case Locator |
| Electronic filing | eFileGA for State and Superior civil work | NextGen CM/ECF |
| Custodian | Separate Georgia clerks | U.S. District or Bankruptcy clerk |
| Document access | Varies by court, registration, fee, and certification | PACER account and federal fee rules |
The Southern District of Georgia maps out the Savannah federal court route. For the federal docket, turn to PACER, not the county case portal.
Chatham County Court Dockets by City
By 2020 Census count, Chatham County has five largest incorporated places. Savannah, Pooler, Port Wentworth, Garden City, and Tybee Island make up that list. Each city handles its court docket differently. Savannah runs Recorder's Court plus separate parking and camera systems. Pooler posts a searchable municipal calendar, and Port Wentworth publishes procedures with live docket links. Garden City leans on its clerk and citation portal. Tybee offers a municipal calendar and payment directory.
The official 2020 Census incorporated-place table supports the city ranking.

Population drives which city docket routes get dedicated pages. The table is not a court caseload count.

Chatham Municipal Docket Directory
Five city pages do not cover the whole municipal field. Bloomingdale, Thunderbolt, and other incorporated places keep their own local court routes. Before assuming a citation landed in State Court, search with the issuing city.
The official Chatham County municipal-court directory lists city court contacts.

The directory gives the right first contact when a local citation has not yet entered the countywide Odyssey layer.
Always confirm the appearance site with the issuing court. Garden City's city page and the county directory show different ZIP codes. Port Wentworth sources separate current City Hall from the old City Hall hearing location. Treat those conflicts as routing clues, not puzzles to solve by guesswork.
